To explain the southern beauty and charm of Greenwood, let us quote
from "A Visitor's Guide to Greenwood":
"In 1823, John McGehee, Jr. of Cambridge built a log house for his
bride-to-be on his 600 acre plantation. It is said Mrs. McGehee named their
summer home " Green Wood," and later gave name to the small village
that grew around it."
Greenwood was chartered in 1857 and is the ninth largest city in South Carolina.
Lake Greenwood
More than 11,400 acres of sparkling water and 200 miles of shoreline.
Recreation activities include fishing, boating, picniccing, camping, swimming
and eating at a variety of restaurants. Lake Greenwood State Park has a
pine and hardwood forest with a scenic nature trail and full hook-up camp
sites.
Every June, Greenwood County hosts the South Carolina Festival Flowers.
Over 15,000 varieties of flowers are on display at Park Seed's gardens.
These six days of festivities are named one of the Southeast Tourism's "Top
20" events and include private tours, arts and crafts, sports, the
Flotilla at Lake Greenwood, flower and horticulture shows, and music for
all ages.
